While camping this spring in the Colorado mountains, I was struck by how hot it was everywhere except for in the Aspen groves. After hiking up rocky bluffs, the shade and lush greenery found in clusters of Aspens high in the mountains felt both tranquil and energizing. The two Aspen Shade paintings are slightly different views of this scene.
